Commissions

I am open to commissions! General pricing is comprised of:

  • cost of materials

  • $12 per hour of my labor

  • $2 per printing hour

  • shipping/taxes

I can offer discounts on that if 1) it’s modifying a design I already sell or 2) you are fine with me later selling the product in my store.

For example, a new coaster design would involve: cost of coaster (which includes material & printing time) + cost of labor. I already have the base design, so if you’re willing for me to sell the design to others, then I could offer a discount on the cost of labor and create the new coasters at initial price + $3x + shipping/taxes, where x is the number of layers in the coaster design, not counting the rim.

Size limitations:
Due to printer size, I can only create objects smaller than 220 x 220 x 250 mm. Any larger object will by necessity be comprised of smaller parts.

Accessibility Aids

If there is a 3D printed product that would be useful to you as an accessibility aid, send me the design and I will print it and mail it to you for only the cost of printing & shipping. I can do slight alterations on the files so that it is better suited for your size measurements. After you fill out the info to the right, I’ll reach out to discuss price/measurements.

Some examples of accessibility aids (all of these would be under $10 including shipping):
Portable wheelchair ramp
Holder for nailclippers
Key turner
Toothbrush holder
Smartphone holder for wheelchair
Arm support
Portable Braille slate and stylus
Touchscreen stylus cuff
Sock helper

My Story

I’m a half-deaf content creator in my early 30s, she/her. In 2018, I developed a chronic health condition that has continued to worsen over the years. I was in the middle of a PhD program at the time, and while my program has been very accommodating, I will be unable to find a job in my field until my health situation improves. Going out to meet friends has been difficult, but fandom friends online have been an endless source of joy to me during my health struggles. As I contemplated how I could make a living with my health limitations, I decided that I wanted to spread that joy to others, however I can.

 FAQs

  • I digitally draw the base images and convert them into readable files for 3D designing software. This often requires multiple steps of editing so that the layers remain distinct.

Within a 3D-design software, I create a base form (coaster, lamp side, box, etc.) that I place the image onto or use my drawings as a guide for creating a similar 3D shape.

Each piece takes roughly 2-3 prints for me to problem-shoot. Printing each object can take anywhere from a few hours to multiple days.

If I'm painting the object, I sand the parts that will be painted, then apply a primer so that the paint will stick. After that dries, I apply the paint (sometimes combined with a gloss or modeling paste) and then use either a gloss spray or a surface polisher to give the item a smooth finish. Food safe items then require an extra layer of finish so that they are adequately safe for food products.

  • Designing each piece takes a lot of trial and error, and there are often many failed prints behind each printed piece (yes, even once I have a design down, prints still fail a good portion of the time). I take that into account, as well as the cost of materials and how much time I have to spend on each individual item.

  • Unless otherwise stated, I make my products using standard PLA. PLA is a biodegradable plastic, which means it's much better for the environment than regular petroleum-based plastics. I also use recycled PLA whenever possible, meaning that my materials come from recycled plastics that have been removed from landfills and/or collected by a PLA recycling company.

PLA *is* both compostable and recyclable, but it's a category 7 plastic. What does that mean? Practically, the best way to dispose of it is to take it to a company that does compost/recycling--NOT to put it in your recycling bin. The problem is that PLA has a higher melting temperature than most other plastics, so it can't be mixed in with many things. The good news is that there are many companies and individuals who can break down PLA objects into PLA filament (basically the ink for the 3D printers. I hope to be able to do so soon and offer that service to people, but the equipment is expensive and/or complicated, so I'm still working on it).

  • PLA is non-toxic. However, PLA is recyclable/biodegradable because it is very porous. This means that water can collect in microscopic spaces and allow bacteria to grow. Certain PLA brands take measures against this and are labelled as 'food safe' by the FDA (I use the filaments.ca brand). However, even these products are no longer food safe once they get wet, as that would allow bacterial growth. Please do not eat directly off a wet item! If they do become wet, all PLA just needs to be washed with warm soap and water to ensure no bacterial growth occurs. So even non food-safe PLA is fine to use as a snack tray after it's been a coaster/gotten wet, just make sure to wash it first.

  • Like most plastics, PLA *will* melt in extreme heat. Please do not microwave it, store it in your garage, or leave the item in your car during summer.

  • All products that have parts that are small enough to be choking hazards will be labelled as such. PLA and the paints I use are non-toxic, so no worries! The only concern with PLA is when bacteria is allowed to grow in its surface. If it gets wet, PLA can be sterilized with methods such as Ethanol, Hydrogen Peroxide, UV-C lamps, Isopropanol, a hot air dryer, and even soap and warm water.

  • Unless you catch me at a time when I have extra stock, all my products are made to order. I try my best to ship things within a week of their order date, but I can only print 5 coasters per day, so if I have a health flare up or several large orders at once, it may take over a week. Feel free to email me at any time to inquire about when your order will ship. You will receive a tracking code once your purchase ships.

  • No cancellations after I have shipped items.
I will pack each order carefully, but once it ships I have no control over it and cannot be held liable for any delays and damages to the package due to poor handling.
No exchanges/refunds for damaged or lost packages. Buyer can return item for a refund/exchange within 30 days of the selling date, but the buyer must pay for shipping costs.
If your shipped goods come incomplete/incorrect please contact me at mousey.muse3d@gmail.com. I will send you replacements/the correct items as soon as possible.

Please double check your address and contact me if any change needs to be made!!! This will help avoid any delayed, lost, or returned packages. Contact your local Post Office in the case of lost/delayed packages.
